Nylite Elevator Downlight Systems
Lamp Replacement

The service life of a lamp is dependent on the following conditions under which it operates:

• Voltage (level of dimming): the lower the voltage, the longer the lamp will last.
• Fixtures are designed to work with exhaust fans. The cooler conditions resulting from greater air movement will tend to increase bulb life.
• Most lamps "blow" just as they are turned on. A lamp buring continuously will last longer than one that is cycled on and off.

In general, lamps operating under the same service conditions will have approximately the same service life. For this reason, we recommend servicing Nylite lamps as a set. When two or more lamps burn out, it is likely that most of the other lamps in a single elevator cab will burn out soon afterward. To save time and labor, it is best to replace all of the Nylite lamps in a ceiling at one time, after the second lamp burns out.


LAMP REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

The lamp in the Nylite fixture has a single contact bayonet base. It pops in and out with a little inward pressure and a slight twist. The use of a lamping tool (#2860), a special suction cup mounted on a metal rod, makes this a simple task.

To remove the lamp, push the suction cup onto the bulb, depress the lamp and twist it counter-clockwise about 1/8 turn. The lamp and tool should drop out.

To replace the lamp, put the bulb in the lamping tool, line up the tabs on the lamp base with the slots in the socket, insert and deress the lamp, and twist it clockwise about 1/8 turn to lock it in place. Bend the lamping tool at an angle to release the suction cup from the bulb.

For those systems with protective screens (#3865), the screens can be removed by unscrewing counter- clockwise, and inserted by screwing in clockwise. A special spanner tool (#3866) is available to do this.

Suggestion: For extra adhesion. the rubber suction cup on the lamping tool can be moistened. This will aid in the removal and insertion of the lamp.

CAUTIONS

Do not try to "unscrew" the lamp. Unscrewing can damage the socket and break the bulb out of the lamp base.

There are two types of Nylite lamps: coated to prevent shattering in the cab (lamp #13TS), and uncoated for use with a screen (lamp #1383). The use of lamps other the "Nylube " brand may result in shorter lamp life and possible system damage.

As with any activity in which a hazard to the eyes exists (i.e. falling debris), safety glasses should be worn while changing lamps.
